The West Cook YMCA in Oak Park has elected to participate in the National YMCA Diversity Initiative.  The Cultural Competency Committee directs our organization through the steps set forth in the ‘Cultural Competency Resource Guide.’

The Cultural Competency Committee, approximately 10 individuals currently composed of YMCA Board Members and Staff, would welcome the participation of an interested YMCA Member.  Additional members would bring the groups size to a maximum of 12 persons representing a spectrum of YMCA involvement.

The group meets monthly, typically the 3^rd Thursday, 7:30-8:45a.m.  While this is a structured process, there is room to tailor the steps to our community and broader service area.  Committee members can expect to take on some responsibility beyond meeting attendance.

Efforts are aimed at increasing public awareness of the YMCA as a Membership organization that is strengthened by being inclusive, respectful, and welcoming to ALL.
