Parent/ Child l Preschool
Classes are nationally certified by the YMCA of the USA Preschool Aquatic Program. Shrimp, Kipper, Inia and Perch are parent-child classes for children ages 6 months through 36 months. Parents attend class with their child and join in all activities. Pike, Eel, Ray and Starfish are for children ages three to six years old where children attend class independently.

Swim lessons for the SKIP levels focus on water adjustment, safety skills for both the parent and child, and the fundamentals of swimming. PERS lessons build on the above skills and also include stroke development, rescue skills, water sports and games, and moving the child toward independence in the water. Lesson groups are determined by the swimmer’s ability and age.

Gym & Swim
The Nationally-run, YMCA of the USA-certified program combines movement education with swim lessons to create a program that teaches necessary fundamentals for both land and water sports. In Gym & Swim, instructors work to help promote the concept of spirit, mind and body by teaching skills which allow children to have fun and form healthy relationships with their peers. Instructors teach skills which require problem solving to help promote developmental milestones. The swim lesson portion of this program follows the parent/child aquatic program. Students and parents have 10 minutes to change for swimming. See previous page for descriptions.

Private Swim Lessons: Interested in having one-on-one instruction? Private swim lessons continue throughout the year. To sign-up, obtain a private lesson request form at the Member Services Counter. Once your completed form is received by the Aquatic Director, we will match you with a qualified instructor. Each session of private lessons consists of eight-30-minute lessons. Days and times are arranged with the instructor. Payment is due before the first lesson.

Semi-Private Swim Lessons: Do you have a friend with whom you would like to learn to swim? Groups of two students can sign-up together! To sign-up, obtain request forms at the Member Services Counter - one form for each student. We will then match an instructor with your group. It is recommended that members of the group be at approximately the same level of swimming ability. Fee is per participant. Please note: The YMCA does not offer a partner-match program. Participants need to form groups of two before signing up for classes. Payment is due before each lesson.

Semi-Private/ Private Arthritis Swim Class: Our water temperature is 84-86 degrees, so this class is accredited by the Arthritis Foundation for those who suffer from muscle or joint pain. Certified instructors lead participants through a series of specially designed exercises to help increase range of motion and decrease pain. It is not necessary to know how to swim. However, a signed consent form from a physician is required (forms are available at the Member Services Counter.)
